How to use this word counter

Count words, characters, sentences, paragraphs and estimated reading time as you type. Paste an article, essay, meta description or social caption into the box — every stat updates instantly with no button to press and no signup.

How to use it: type or paste your text, watch the live counts (words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and reading time), then copy the text back out or clear the box to start over. The slug preview below the summary turns the same text into a clean URL-friendly slug you can copy for headlines and file names.

Counts explained: words are whitespace-separated tokens; characters counts everything including spaces and line breaks while “no spaces” excludes them; sentences split on . ! ? boundaries; paragraphs split on blank lines; reading time assumes about 200 words per minute.

Privacy: everything runs in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded, stored or logged. Clearing the box removes it from the page immediately.

FAQs

Is the word counter free?

Yes. It is free with no signup, no account and no usage limits.

Is my text uploaded or stored anywhere?

No. Counting happens entirely in your browser. Nothing you type leaves your device, and nothing is sent to a server or stored in the CMS.

How are words counted?

Text is split on whitespace, so each group of characters separated by spaces, tabs or line breaks counts as one word.

How is reading time calculated?

Word count divided by about 200 words per minute, shown in minutes and seconds.

What is the difference between characters and no-spaces?

Characters counts everything including spaces and line breaks; no-spaces excludes spaces, tabs and line breaks, which is useful for strict length limits.

How are sentences and paragraphs detected?

Sentences split on . ! and ? boundaries; paragraphs split on blank lines, so each block of text separated by an empty line is one paragraph.

What is the slugified output for?

It turns your text into a lowercase URL-friendly slug (words joined with hyphens, special characters removed) that you can copy for headlines, file names and links.

Is there a text length limit?

No fixed limit. Very large documents are still processed locally, though extremely long pastes may feel slower depending on your device and browser.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The tool is mobile-first with a single-column layout, large tap targets and no horizontal scrolling.

Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type or upload leaves your device.
